Cobb Community Center

The existing community center is an active neighborhood facility in an underprivileged section of the city. Focus is placed on the activities as well as the social and physical well being of its senior citizens. The new addition responded to the need for improved spaces and facilities for these seniors. The community center addition compliments the existing gymnasium with spaces for meetings, free lunches, fitness and exercise, games, and social gatherings. The random square pattern of the bricks creates an informal and “game-like” feel to the exterior walls. And even though the LEED process was not a requirement of this project, there were still many green aspects used such as energy efficient systems, recycled content materials, the use of natural day lighting, and minimal site impact.
